Posted by Kim Lundgren on Mar 26, 2019 2:18:47 PM

This is part of our ongoing KLA Communications Boot Camp series. We've covered website content (Website Content that Works) and blog posts (Writing Winning Blog Posts) and now turn our attention to where everyone's attention already is: VIDEOS.

If you haven’t considered how video can boost your local sustainability and climate action goals, now is the time and this is the place to get started.

We produced several videos for our local government clients last year (scroll to the bottom watch them) and consider it a critical element of our communications support for them moving forward.

Why?

More and more people are watching videos. Beyond entertainment, that’s how they want to consume information. It’s the key to educating and engaging.

At KLA we’re on a mission to help local government staff and elected officials -- especially those focusing on sustainability and climate action -- up their communications and community outreach games in 2019. That’s why there is KLA Communications Boot Camp, a new series of blog posts, podcasts, guidebooks and trainings we will offer throughout the year focused on communications and community outreach skills.

Let’s dive right in to Part 2: Write Winning Blog Posts. (Note: Part 1 -- Website Content that Works -- is available here.)

A blog is an excellent way to keep website content fresh, drive people to your site, amplify your work and seed social media posts. Your local government doesn’t have a blog? The guidance below also applies if you have the opportunity to contribute an article to a local media outlet or similar.

Your Mission this Holiday Season: Discuss Climate Change, No Matter How Hard

Posted by Kim Lundgren on Nov 14, 2018 10:11:57 AM

Before we know it, the holidays will be upon us. While this time is often filled with delicious meals, community, and a time to reflect, it can also be a challenging space of reckoning with family and friends who harbor varying social and political beliefs. From gun control to the midterm election results, there will be no shortage of hot topics as you gather with loved ones.

That means the topic of climate -- not just potatoes and pie -- could be on the table. As one news article said, “when it comes to global warming, America’s political climate may have changed more than the Earth’s over the past three decades.” That’s quite a lot of change.

Posted by Kim Lundgren on Nov 1, 2018 8:25:00 AM

We’re about to enter the holiday season which is marked in large part by the act of giving (and receiving) gifts. The holidays exacerbate an issue that we grapple with every season and every day: waste.

Cities are fighting back against preemption to chart their own course on issues from labor standards to civil rights to environmental protection.

Here is our Q&A on preemption:
